Claim To Be Jews and New Jerusalem (3:9,12)
In Revelation 3:9 we read again about those who claim to be Jews but lie. We saw this very same problem concerning the Christians at Smyrna. The church in Philadelphia also had to deal with the persecution of the Jews during this time. The Christians in Philadelphia are also told about “the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God.” Obviously, we are reading a contrast between the old, physical Jerusalem and new, spiritual Jerusalem.
Unfortunately, many in religious fail to see this teach about a new, spiritual Jerusalem. Many teach the rebuilding of a physical city of Jerusalem for the Lord to rule over. However, we are already reading about a heavenly Jerusalem where God dwells (Hebrews 12:22-24; Romans 9:6-8).
